Expansive Low Country salt marsh and a region steeped in history serve as the introduction to Beaufort beaches. The town, a jewel of preservation, greets visitors to this Spanish moss-draped coastal environment made familiar in movies such as "Forrest Gump" and "Prince of Tides."
Hunting Island State Park is the only maritime beach open to the public and serving visitors and residents of Beaufort, Port Royal and nearby Parris Island. It is a barrier island in a near pristine state and has 4 1/2 miles of untamed coast and thousands of acres of salt marsh for visitors. It’s a wilder, wonderful side of the Low Country.
