Charleston is a peninsula city, and to go to the beach, one must travel north and east to neatly manicured Isle of Palms and historic Sullivan’s Island or south and west to Folly Beach, the quintessential Charleston beach.

This semi-tropical island offers beachfront laid-back and unplugged. It is unhurried, idiosyncratic and as thoroughly relaxed as cut-off blue jeans.

Most access is by accommodation, and there is a county park with parking and facilities at the west end.
