Dixie meets the Gulf of Mexico on this sunny, south-facing, 32-mile-long island about 50 miles southeast of Mobile on the east side of Mobile Bay. Gulf Shores is graced with pure quartz sand and azure blue waters, wide, flat beaches and tides that barely rise and fall, about as tan-perfect as a beach gets. There’s plenty to explore and do. Beachfront accommodations with parking and access are the rule here; state and municipal parks provide parking for day visitors.
